Orissa athletes finish 3rd with 35 medals in East Zone Jr meet

A 62-member Orissa squad finished overall third with a total of 35 medals in the 23rd East Zone Junior Athletics Championship, which concluded at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata today. The medals included 11 gold, five silver and 19 bronze.

Host West Bengal emerged overall champions with 112 medals (48 gold, 40 silver, 24 bronze), while Jharkhand settled as runners-up, garnering 45 medals (14 gold, 17 silver, 14 bronze). Among Orissa athletes, Rajat Kumar Mohanty and Dutee Chand completed a double each in boys 18 and girls 16 groups respectively.

SILVER: 1. Bonita Lakra (Girls-18, long jump, 5.39m), 2. Soumya Ranjan Das (B-20, 110m hurdles, 15.1s), 3. Girls-18 Medlay relay (Sumi Oram, Bonita Lakra, Anjali Sardar, Madhusmita Giri), 4. Dhiren Kumar Kadraka (B-18, triple jump, 13.13m), 5. Anil Kumar Das (B-20, 400m hurdles, 51.8s).
